Research

Research is at the heart of my teaching and creative practices. My research emphasis is on curriculum development for the classroom and broader community. In particular, I am inspired by researching contemporary artists and their practices, K-18 instruction, teacher professional development, and global education. Throughout my career, I have utilized participatory action research methodologies that make a significant difference in participants’ lives.

I designed my textbook Teaching and Learning in Art Education: Cultivating Students’ Potential from Pre-K Through High School as a vehicle to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Its innovative curricular model supports students and teachers in their quest for creating a learning environment that centers on students’ needs using big ideas, enduring understandings, visual arts standards, and exemplary student artworks.
